I am having trouble understanding exactly what you did and exactly what was going on but if your problem is what I think it is, it sounds like recovery was broken. The easiest way to fix is to flash alternate recovery and the flash back to recovery of choice. After this try to reboot back into recovery by holding x and power. Holding the d pad up and pressing power is for loading update mode only not recovery. The only time you should put your phone in update mode is when you are loading a .sbf file via rsd lite.

one click root doesn't work on Froyo 2.2. The way you tried to do it is one of 2 ways to do it.

You should try the proper way to root. This is not the first time I've seen an issue using it.

Okay I was under the impression you used the one click.
There is no video for this method. You followed the guide then you just need to try again. When you hold up during the rsd lite flash you need it to back to the bootloader so rsdlite will show "PASS". Once it does that you remove it from the usb cable and power off. X+power and apply the update.zip through recovery.
I understand you would like a video but you just need to read the guide more thoroughly.
It took me a month of reading before I was comfortable.
