my new moto droid is in transit to me as we speak and i've been trying to do some research as to how to make sure it works the best for me. :) i've been reading about rooting the phone to customize it and i'm def. intrigued.

however i do have questions about this rooting thing...will it void the warranty to root the phone? what exactly does rooting:icon_eek: mean? do i have to be very technologically adept? [cuz i'm only so-so :)]

    thanks

    Hello and welcome!

First off, as pilot said, it does void your warranty and while I am not condoning or suggesting you root your phone, if you chose to do so and you know how to do it, there are usually safeguards that can get you back to a stock form in case you have problems.

Rooting is when you override the system security to allow access to the system files that you wouldn't normally be able to touch.

While we can access those files, we don't normally touch them, it's the fancy apps we get that use that information for us. If you follow the correct steps and don't go crazy when you overclock the phone, you are generally in a safe place.

The biggest piece of advice I can give you would be this: Read, read, and read some more.

At that point, ask 1 million questions, then make sure you can manually root and unroot your phone before you rely on any automatic ability.

Again, welcome and I hope you learn a lot here :)
