All the reasons to root the incredible can be found here:
Howto: Root the HTC Droid Incredible ? Technology ? Jonamerica.com

I can tell you that my phone runs smoother, more battery life and some other cool things after root..

I unplugged my phone at 8:30am and its about 3:30 now and battery is still at 86%. Removing bloatware and a better kernel has helped tremendously!

I don't have cell reception where I am. Can I receive an update via WiFi if it does come out today?

Nothing in OKC yet...I'm ready for it! Sweet 720p video capture.

which rom are you using? is it stable? haven't decided which rom to use yet.

so we'll be ask for confirmation for the update or will it do it for us? i just rooted 2 days ago so i kind'a want to keep it. although the 720p recording and other stuff might be ok. i just hope unrevoke can come thru again.

I suppose that everyone will start posting if they actually receive an OTA.

I guess I will believe it when I see it, LOL

I'm looking forward to more internal speed and batt life.

It won't go out by area. Updates are completely random.

Internal Speed? Possibly, I didn't read that in Shadez report. Maybe I missed it. But if they said improved battery life, don't expect much if any difference. All the Droid updates had "improved battery life" and I saw no difference.

My thoughts too, I am thinking it will be another couple weeks to a month.

When a release goes out it's just initially released to a small amount of people. They increase the amount each day. Sometimes they even take a full day off from releases.

In other words your chances of getting it today are slim. But good luck, you never know.

Question on the hot spot feature. Do I need to root my phone BEFORE the update to be able to get it for free?? If the update downloads onto phone can I still get it by rooting and saving the $20 fee per month. Thanks

To my knowledge you won't be able to apply the OTA to a rooted Incredible.

You are correct. you must RUU back to stock, run OTA, and then do Unrevoked 3.1 again. This is unsupported by the Unrevoked team. I personally am waiting on it.

I tried both cyanogen and sky raider. Cyanogen just felt like a regular Droid and sky raider was real nice but until they get the camera working I am just sticking with the stock rom.

I did flash my kernel to the underclocked Hydra though which has really helped with battery life.

If you haven't rooted yet I highly recommend you do. The incredible has just become that much more incredible.
