there has to be a way to get it working though since there is a chip that supports receiving and transmission. it'd be really awesome to have the droid broadcast a weak FM signal and play it through the car.

Well enabling the chip isn't an issue, but figuring out how the droid specifically interacts with the chip, and then writing code to make it transmit using the droid's various audio libraries makes it extremely complicated.

there was tons of progress over at alldroid, but when it went down it was almost all lost.

It wasn't technically "lost"... the people working on it just scattered. I wish they'd get back together here and continue work!

They kept talking about how the antenna was supposedly to be separate from the wifi/bluetooth antenna. However, most phones REQUIRE that you use headphones because your headphones act as antennas. My LG EnV Touch wouldn't do FM Radio without headphones...or was it my HTC 6800, or my diamond? It was my diamond. lol.

It is possible, however to accomplish this. It's only a matter of time to see if it's really worth putting so much effort into something so useful as to xmit and recieve FM signals. I'd personally like to see it happen. Hell, if I had 802.11n on my phone I'd cut my phone radio off while I'm home and use Skype or something.

Fact of the matter is that we've been able to (at least) recieve FM signals with our phones for about 3+ years now. Why can't the droid do the same? What happened to "When the world doesn't, DROID DOES" damnit?!? dancedroid

BIG LOU!!!! I miss your site man. even if outdated the guides were beyond compare. It got me from absolute zero to writing a bash script to organize my sdcard media. :dancedroid:

Man I remember FM radio being all the talk back in the day (4 months ago). Couldn't you use headphones as an antenna while still broadcasting to the car receiver? Speaking of things we've been able to do for years, how are new cars still coming out without an aux input? Would make this unnecessary, que no? I wanted it for actual FM radio transmissions cause I hate iheartradio, seems thats a pipe dream on this hardware.

If we can get this fm transmitter working...how about patching it and transmit the mp3 player so that our cars can hear it!!!

Does anybody have the old kernel that was over at alldroid that enabled rfkill1 in /sys/class/rfkill?

    that would be greatly appreciated.
