I saw this in another forum. I am not sure how accurate this is, but would be nice if someone could get this working.

I agree, That would make the phone better yet if someone could get it working, and since it has been rooted it should be possible.

We just need to learn how to harvest the signal, and write an app for it lol

I'd love to have this just so I could listen to local FM radio stations. Can anyone verify that this information is accurate?

Well, someone is bound to take their phone apart soon. Guess we'll know then. hahahahahahah.

FM Walkie Talkies wouldn't be a problem if they didn't know about it. But it isn't really a feasible concept since anyone could tap in.

Guys, WiFi signals are digitally modulated FM. So your Droid is transmitting on FM.

Actually, plenty of companies make FM transmitters. I have one for my Zune, my roommate has one for his iPod. (example: Zune FM Transmitters, Radio FM Transmitter for Zune ) Nothing illegal about it.

Don't you think those companies licensed their equipment for transmission?

    Jeez

There is a walkie talkie app, but it sends the audio through email. It would be nice if it could be sent as an audio text. Push to talk, like nextel and sprint, would be even better. Hopfully someone will figure it out soon.

I would find this app highly useful in the gym i go too. At my gym they have like 10 big screen tv's with each one at a certain FM frequency.

It just doesn't seem realistic to allow the droid to transmit "FM" signals other than WiFi. Plus, if the device was hacked to do so, the range would not surpass the range of WiFi. Thus, walkie talkies wouldn't be realistic. What would be cool, and not too pushy to the FCC, is to allow the Droid to play our MP3s over traditional FM signals. It would neat to simulate those FM adapters that they have for iPods and Zunes (as previously posted). Plus an FM tuner would be kinda cool on the go :).

This is all wishful thinking. I'd be close to betting money that the phone is capable of only WiFi, Bluetooth, and CDMA.
