Droid does NOT support Outlook locally...what local sync options exist?

I don't use my Droid for work, but I'd like to be able to sync my with my corp Exchange server so I can easily check email...

Same here, My company does not run activesync. Any Corp mobile email users are BB.... I am allowed OWA access and I am running Touchdown with great results....Email, Tasks, Calender, Contacts....Worth every penny of the 9.99

I am already disappointed with the way Google Smart #$%&$
handled the "contacts" situation.

- They do not allow to directly sync locally with PC Outlook without
exchange server.
- Personally, I am too paranoid to upload all 1200+ contacts up
in the google with so many hackers out there. (Think of Albert
Gonzalez
- Let's say I shed my paranoia off, now comes frustration. They do not
provide a software that properly imports Outlook
contacts (i.e. carrying over all the fields properly including any
attachments like pictures)
- No support to import Personal Folder (i.e. contacts.pst) period.
- Don't even go there, I spent too much time to line up all the CSV
formats and columns, it's all crap. Google can not import Contacts
properly, that is the bottom line.

This is full of BeS.

Oh waidaminute, only google can not be blamed for this.
Google is first to be blamed since such basic feature
should have been built in. But....
Somehow HTC supports this feature. I hear anyway. So
Motorola is responsible for not having this feature as well.

Hmmm, I didn't think of the danger of getting hacked, having them all online.

I don't have as many contacts as you, but Missing Sync did a nice job syncing 240 contacts and does NOT sync to the cloud - it puts them on a local store on the Droid. I wasn't thinking that was what I wanted, because I like having FB pictures attached to my contacts which works nicely if the are in google.

Missing Sync still has some bugs but I'm getting fast responses from the development team.

Now that's unfair, after spending $270 for the mini computer,
spend $40 extra just to make the darn thing do what it is supposed
to do? That is unheard of....take any cheap device out there in
the market and throw it on to a PC (sorry Mac!), will sync contacts!

After all, that is what a PHONE is used for!

Syncing two PC's with Droid

Disclaimer: I'm in no way associated w/CompanionLink but I dived in today and now have Outlook from my laptop and PC synced w/my Droid.
I do not have Exchange at work so I'm on my own w/Outlook and, like many out there, have always used Outlook and found the only thing I don't love about the Droid is the syncing w/Outlook issue.
Being a former i760 user I had a spare from a VZW screw up that I did a hard reset on and partnered with the two PC's.
Did a major "over the holidays" house cleaning on my Contacts and deleted quite a few after saving them to a separate folder. Synced both PC's with the i760.
Downloaded the trial version of CL on both the laptop and Droid.
CL allows a lot of customization for myriad syncing protocols so I set it up the way I wanted and, after unchecking Sync Contacts and Sync Calendar in the GMail account settings did my first Outlook to Droid sync.
All went perfectly (including purging the existing Contacts shared w/Google) except for the "first name first" pain in the butt.
Calendar synced, Tasks synced, Contacts Synced.
Now I can make any changes to Contacts/Cal/Tasks daily on the laptop and sync w/Droid at will and be up to date.
A bit more work than the old WM way w/AS but a decent work around until someone comes up w/something more reasonable.
I opted to do Outlook to Droid only to avoid my Contacts getting screwed up w/first name first issues.

Maybe this will be fixed in the next Android update? Simply becuase Motorola and HTC are different companies, they could not sync their updates?

Why would you think that it's "supposed to" do this? That indicates a lack of research IMO. Google will always favor the cloud approach.

...and not all cheap phones sync.

I do not think the Droid has its internal calendar. Why would you want to keep it separate from Google Calendar?

Well, it's not just $270, it will cost you >$1,000 with data plan over 2 years.

You can create a separate calendar within the Google calendar and keep it private. I do net see any other way of doing it in Droid.
