I read at android police that the droid charge is factory unlocked. If that's the case will this phone be themed and get slapped with roms? Im asking being the droid x came out and d2 owners I would say would get scraps left over in a way. Their was always more interest in the droid x compared to the droid 2. By the sounds of it people may not pick up the droid charge because of touchwiz or that samsung takes forever to release updates. So does anyone plan on buying it or waiting?

Most devs seem busy on the tbolt.

Also with a 299 price tag and 749 retail price, hard to tell how popular the device will be.

I've heard a rumored release to be on Thursday...phones are already in stores.

I think I might wait for the galaxys2. Dual core 3g with awesome battery life... and hopefully a bit cheaper.

But amazon has droid branded devices for a penny usually a month or two after release you would think if it had a unlocked bootloader devs would be all over it im considering this or the new droid targa

$749 is the bloated retail price, Verizon's retail price is somewhere between $619-639. I will likely pay retail unless I can get an early upgrade done.

I'd like to know this as well. While the devs are having a good time with the TB, the Charge (from everything I've heard) gets significantly better battery life and I'm starting to consider this phone over the TB.

How was the ROMing with previous Samsung phones (the Facsinate, etc..)? If I buy this phone TouchWhiz would have to go!

I have seen over at android central one of the lucky bums who got it before the gates slammed shut and he was running spb's launcher and it looked really nice. There is a current Fascinate Dev over at AC who is willing to port all of his work to the Charge, but he is (reasonably) asking for help in paying for one. I'm no coder/dev so I would be happy to help out those who help us.

Has anyone confirmed the bootloader is unlocked so we can put a new kernel in it?

Im sure it is unlocked I read a specs sheet somewhere it said factory unlocked so.no need to.tinker with it.for.root and samsung phones are easy to.root anyway.
Even from what I read I dont think this device will be popular enough for.people to.buy because people dont like the look its slower then droid inc2 and samsung sucks with updates. With that being said people who.buy this device will probably end up.like d2 owners where they barely have anything to flash like roms and themes. Whatever droid x gets droid 2 gets leftover scraps.

That's my concern. A sweet looking phone will get ignored, but at this rate unless the LG Revolution ships next week as "rumored" then its pretty safe to say Verizon is having more issues with 4G LTE than they are ever going to admit.

I had the ThunderBolt, great phone overall, but the display was so washed out in direct sunlight it was a waste. If we actually knew when Verizon would be getting the GS2 variant that would be nice.

Mind you there is no concrete proof of the GSII ever making it to verizon. Also it isn't in verizons summer or spring guides so if it is going to come it wont be until fall or winter.

The Spring/Summer guide is already out of date, it doesn't show phones that are supposed to be coming DX2, D3 etc and has phones launched or coming soon that are either not launched or already launched. I put no stock what a print promo flyer offers. Anything can fall from the sky, anything except lower charges from carriers.
