I am having trouble hooking my Droid Charge to my Kenwood KDC X494 car stereo. I have done this with several ipods, my iphone 3GS, and even memory sticks. It just won't 'SEE' the Charge for some reason hooking it up with USB. Yes, I can hook it up through aux, but the sound is unnacceptable to me. Does anyone have any suggestions? This is a big deal to me, and I will go back to an iphone if I can't get this to work. :( And, no...I don't really want to buy another stereo. I have thought about it, though.

Ugh. I was looking at the DX2, too. I might just go back to it. I have to have my music!! And I COULD put it on another device and keep it in the car, but that just seems...not cool. :rating03: I just bought a good phone with a huge amount of space for music.

Yeah it does suck that aux is the only way to go ha :/ but yeah you keep an ipod in the car but I just run my zune through aux but my x2 def has terrible quilty through the head jack. Maybe someday they can make a deck that supports droid

Just a shot in the dark....but is your phone in the USB mass storage mode? I would think if your deck supports usb memory sticks, it would recognize your phone as a memory stick in mass storage mode.

So, just as a follow up to this, I decided that my solution would be to get the bluetooth adapter for the stereo. It should be here today.

What's the problem with sound quality through the Charge audio jack?

I have a DroidX and a Kenwood Excelon head unit and can't really tell a difference in sound quality between USB and Aux. I actually prefer aux because I can find the songs a lot faster than searching via USB.

Could it just be the phone though processing the sound? I can't stand low sound quality either, but my X is pretty good. Way better than my iPod Touch in the sound quality department.

nope. I tested several devices. It could be the cord. I didn't test that.

I decided to get a large capacity ipod used to put in my car. Sigh. The bluetooth was not giving good sound, either.

I found a fix for my Charge and kenwood to work together.
First set the phone to ask on connection in USB settings. Connect the cable on both ends. Choose mass storage. when the droid icon appears hit the button again to turn him orange.
Next allow the devices to sync. The radio will continue to search for files. The phone will time out. On the phone hit mass storage again the radio should still be searching. In about two to three seconds the radio will read from the SD card. Dont delay hitting mass storage and allowing files to be read on the second go round or the radio will time out. By selecting ask on connection the USB syncing gets a chance to catch up to each other.

That worked!!!! Omg, thank you!! I didn't have to go through it twice, either. I swear I tried that before. Oh, well. Just glad I have all my music and good sound. :)

Now I am having a problem getting it to read all the music on there. I put it on with media monkey. I just right clicked and synchronized it. It's all on the sd card. I'm not sure why it can read some and not others. It can play all of it through auxillary out with headphones. The folders are clear...not white on the ones it can't read.

I have that issue too. Sometimes I can rename the file and it will show up, other times it can't...

On my Bionic the Kenwood would only recognize music that was on the sd card not the internal memory. After moving it to the card it works fine.
I agree that the aux in allows you to access and control things better as well as shuffle. Didn't see that option on my Kenwood x995

What is the problem? is it with your stereo or your cable code? I think there would be problem with your code only.
