I am having trouble hooking my Droid Charge to my Kenwood KDC X494 car stereo. I have done this with several ipods, my iphone 3GS, and even memory sticks. It just won't 'SEE' the Charge for some reason hooking it up with USB. Yes, I can hook it up through aux, but the sound is unnacceptable to me. Does anyone have any suggestions? This is a big deal to me, and I will go back to an iphone if I can't get this to work. :( And, no...I don't really want to buy another stereo. I have thought about it, though.

Ugh. I was looking at the DX2, too. I might just go back to it. I have to have my music!! And I COULD put it on another device and keep it in the car, but that just seems...not cool. :rating03: I just bought a good phone with a huge amount of space for music.

Just a shot in the dark....but is your phone in the USB mass storage mode? I would think if your deck supports usb memory sticks, it would recognize your phone as a memory stick in mass storage mode.

So, just as a follow up to this, I decided that my solution would be to get the bluetooth adapter for the stereo. It should be here today.

What's the problem with sound quality through the Charge audio jack?

I have a DroidX and a Kenwood Excelon head unit and can't really tell a difference in sound quality between USB and Aux. I actually prefer aux because I can find the songs a lot faster than searching via USB.

I'm really a pain in the ass when it comes to sound quality. I can tell.

Could it just be the phone though processing the sound? I can't stand low sound quality either, but my X is pretty good. Way better than my iPod Touch in the sound quality department.

nope. I tested several devices. It could be the cord. I didn't test that.

I decided to get a large capacity ipod used to put in my car. Sigh. The bluetooth was not giving good sound, either.

I found a fix for my Charge and kenwood to work together.
First set the phone to ask on connection in USB settings. Connect the cable on both ends. Choose mass storage. when the droid icon appears hit the button again to turn him orange.
Next allow the devices to sync. The radio will continue to search for files. The phone will time out. On the phone hit mass storage again the radio should still be searching. In about two to three seconds the radio will read from the SD card. Dont delay hitting mass storage and allowing files to be read on the second go round or the radio will time out. By selecting ask on connection the USB syncing gets a chance to catch up to each other.
