Droid as a remote on Verizon FiOS

Has anyone been using their Droid on the Verizon FiOS TV service? I am curious to know if it works as a keyboard in addition to operating channels. In other words, can I use my Droid instead of the on screen keyboard where I have to select one character at a time with the set top box remote?

I have not been able to get my Droid Fios TV remote app to work. However, I have used the Fios DVR manager app, which works like a charm.

I need to get an HD set top box in order for this feature to work. I have heard mixed reports about the application for a remote not being available from Verizon at this time. The TV in my office is not HD and I don't want to spend the extra bucks on an HD box if the Droid cannot control the TV screen keyboard. I have no need for the remote DVR feature. Any others out there?
