hopefully its relatively soon after droidx release. if the builds are pretty much done i dont see why verizon would delay the others for another 3 months

I think with more companies bringing gb to their phones, it might of light a little fire under Motorola's behind. Just my thought. There have been times where I've questioned my purchase of my d2g. Maybe I should've gotten a different phone, or I should've have waited. But I love this phone
At least we're getting gb, and i'll be set until we set our eyes on some ice cream sandwich lol

For ICS, I'm going to get a Milestone 3, myself. Once that comes out. And will leave D2G as my “backup” phone.

Its the latest version of android. Its like current slim PlayStation 3, and the original fat PlayStation 3. Some of us just want the latest and greatest.

Most of us don't care is it Gingerbread or whatever android version you name here. What we hope for is this update to bring some so much required fixes to make the phone reliable as a business device. Because it is currently not.
Rumor is new update will bring new Moto BLUR which is supposed to make user experience better. At least if we judge based on what we hear about leaked Droid X update(s).
Personally I hope the update to fix problems, even if nothing else changes, if currently known problems get fixed, I am totally OK with current software versions.

I was on the phone with a Verizon rep on Monday due to a contacts problem that they were unable to fix and before I had gotten off the phone I asked him if he knew anything about an android version update for the droid series, and specifically the droid 2 global. This is what he had to say: "'Motorola is almost completely done with the update for the droid x, the others will come shortly after. As for your droid 2 global, expect to see it mid-July. But there's a slight change that it may even be sooner as the gingerbread update for the phone is near completion and will soon start testing in a few weeks."
I'm not sure if what he said was 100 % true but I was very excited when he said this to me

Let me tell you my story: I was on phone yesterday with VZ CSR and she went through my issues did a couple of things (like they always do) and then her question was "Did you receive any update in last two days or was your phone updated today?" and the obvious answer was "NO". I asked her about the update but she did not want to tell me about it. Her question made me think when I read the msg above and now I tried to manually check for the update..

I went back to the stock backup and checked the update and now my phone tells me

"Check for update was not available at this time
    Try again later"
    ....

Does that mean anything? Will one of you (who is on stock) check for the update manually and let us know if you get the same error code....

There are a few test phones roaming around with gb. Probably had some phones get selected for a new build.

Honestly, with the Droid X getting the update right now I would suspect the Droid 2 series to get the update sometime around mid-june (don't quote me on that though).

The Droid Pro will probably be the last to get the update because it has been out the shortest amount of time.

I could also see the R2D2 droid getting it late as well due to theme customizations, etc... that are stock on the original phone.

Well considering how long it has been since the DX Leak and the DX Release (Starts Friday apparently) I suspect it may still be at least a month or two before the D2G gets it's Gingerbread.

And I would bet we see a leak before it goes official so I'm sure not expecting to see D2G gingerbread anytime soon. At least not right around the corner, Month at least.

The Droid 2 Global is much like the D2. Changing the rom to fit the D2G shouldn't require much and most of the testing on the D2 should carry over.

actually it will take a lot. The radio bands are different since we are global and a lot of apps are tied into that so it will be much more difficult. If it was so easy why do you think we havent got a fully functional liberty yet? its because its not. Sorry to burst your bubble but it will be a while
