draw9patch not running

I am a newbie to Android app development and have come across what I assume to be a very simple problem --- I am unable to launch draw9patch. I already have the Android SDK and all requirements for running Android apps (include Eclipse) as I am able to run the sample Hello World app from the Android site on my macbook.

This is what I do:
* open command line and navigate to the tools/ dir that contains draw9patch
* type into command: draw9patch
* the following is returned: -bash: draw9patch: command not found

Clearly typing "draw9patch" doesn't work. What do I need to type in order to get draw9patch to run?

In the command line, navigate to the tools directory and then type:

./draw9patch
