Tablet Express presents their first Windows OS based tablet with the Dragon Touch i8 pro Windows 10 Tablet. Although calling it a Windows OS tablet isn’t really true, since you can switch the OS between Windows 8.1 and the Android KitKat. In addition, this is a budget tablet, which would set you back for a measly $89.99 if order it straight from their site. As every budget tablet, it’s critical to understand cost they cut back on in order to lower the price.
Let’s begin with the operating system. It comes with Windows 8.1; the same OS you would have on the desktop. Despite being infamous for being terrible on the desktop, the OS is decent when operating in the tablet it’s meant to be operated on. This also gives the profile sharing capability with your Live account login, as well as OneDrive. The one cloud system for sharing of files, music, documents etc. between your tablet and your PC. That’s very nice and all since Windows 8.1 can be relatively notorious with the document sharing aspect that doesn’t make us of Cloud-like service. While I do enjoy the familiar Windows function, that familiarity does become a curse without a keyboard to work with. The inherent problem with Windows 8.1 when it’s not fully optimized for both devices.
Speaking of keyboards, the Bluetooth functionality does work with your wireless mouse and keyboard, usually absent on most budget tablets, so that’s a plus.
In this case, Dragon Touch i8 pro Windows 10 tablet does come with the dual OS, so you can seamlessly transition to the Android OS when you are lacking in a keyboard.

Now the Android 4.4 KitKat experience. While not the latest anymore in the long line of sweet named OS, the KitKat is smooth, with polished UI, with refinement on the calling and messaging side of the platform. Today, it can still be considered the best version of the platform, before the next OS takes over anyway. Booting up takes no time at all on the OS, with QuickOffice still the standard app for the platform and Cloud support is also available on this platform. One of the of the major problem faced is the latency when using the OS on a low-end hardware. With Dragon Touch i8 pro Windows 10 Tab’s 1 GB ram, I won’t be surprised to see this issue in the long run as the memory gets filled up, but as far as I had used it, the device possesses no such latency issue as of yet. Still, the big major downfall of using the KitKat as the OS is the lack of ability (even processing power for this device) to open more than one app on screen at any one time. Other than those, the OS is a great choice for the budget tablet to run on.[IMG] I find that the dual OS is more of a gimmick rather than a benefit, pretty much due to the fact that I don’t necessarily need to switch between OS when I’m using my device. The Windows Live account is nice if I want to skip customizing my tablet from the ground up, or simply for the Windows App Store. And the Windows App store is just lackluster, to say the least, with some downloads even failing on me and risking this review turning into another Windows 8 laments segment. So then, what do you need to use the Android OS for? Everything else that you can’t do on the Windows. Windows have that heavy duty processing ability, and you can split the screen, and run two apps at the same time.

Androids are often unintuitive, can only run one app at a time but feel optimized on a tablet. And it has access to more apps than Windows. The flexibility will be enjoyed by some people, and for those who enjoyed it, the switch is relatively easy. To boot up Windows from Android, go to desktop and select the Android Icon. For the other way round, swipe down for the overhanging menu tab and select “OS switch.”

Another problem for the Dragon Touch i8 pro Windows 10 Tab running to OS, the 1GB ram is inadequate for Windows 8.1, while it does decently for the Android. No problem if you don’t run too many Apps at once, but that is supposed to be Window’s magnum opus over the Android.

More problem with having two OS on the same device is the lack of storage memory you are going to have. It comes in as 32 GB, but chunks of them are going to be taken up by the Windows OS, and the other half by the Android, so you are running about as good as 16 GB per OS. Total up you are going to have 5 GB of free space on the Windows and 7 Gb on the Android after the installation. Pretty disappointed in that aspect. If you would want to make use of the full potential, invest in a 64 Gb MicroSD and have all you install on said storage. This should avoid the potential performance bottlenecking.

Processing power wise, it does have the nifty quad core processor. Not the top of the line in any way, but sure is good enough to load most apps without facing any problem. Do expect the non-arcade-like runner games to face several stuttering problems. But if the apps can run smoothly on your smartphone, it should run as smoothly on this tablet.
Size and display wise, they are the high definition as advertised. The 8” is the perfect size for the small tablet with matching processing power, and the IPS Display is a welcomed bonus. What it does is that you could display the screen from any angle with the minimal reflective problem. In a sense, the screen is bigger than it is. No retina resolution so looking at the screen, so you might notice those pixels in between sessions, but that never really bothers me that much.

Camera wise. It’s terrible. It has both front and back camera which is nice for a budget tablet, but I rather them focusing on a single decent camera. It’s better than nothing, for your video calls, but it’s the bare minimum nonetheless.

Overall, the main reason you would want to buy the Dragon Touch i8 pro Windows 10 Tab would be for the dual OS function, and arguably the cheaper option than similar spec Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook. Aside from me complains about the OS, the device is an excellent budget tablet, for people looking for a general tablet to use, or for the ones needing the OS switch flexibility.

    Pros of the tablet

-Individuals get the convenience of deciding which between Android and Windows operating system they are comfortable with at the moment as you can easily reboot the tablet from one operating system to the other.

-There is a responsive interface that will aid you in whatever you want to accomplish with the device at any particular moment- be it you want to play a game or play videos. Its app loading and general web surfacing, though with occasional hesitations, is still top-of-the-line.

-The tablet features sufficient storage for you to store apps, photos, videos, and music files. The tablet comes with 32 GB, but which is split between the Android operating systems and Windows. Almost 7 GB is free in the Android OS while about 5 GB is free for the windows OS. But in case that is not sufficient space, you may opt to expand the storage with cheap Micro SD cards- such as the ones people often use in their phones and digital cameras.

–The tablet guarantees you very good views with its IPS Display. It is not common to find a budget tablet with an IPS display, but this Dragon Touch features it on the i8 Pro, and it looks pretty amazing. IPS technology makes it possible that you can look at the tablet’s display at an angle and it won’t look somewhat reflective or washed out. While the tab doesn’t feature a retina resolution, it has a wide screen which works well for watching Netflix and YouTube.

    Drawbacks of the tablet

-Not enough space to upgrade to Windows 10 – A few users of this tablet complain there isn’t enough space in the gadget to upgrade to Windows 10 operating system. A user was lamenting that she received a message in the Windows 8.1 informing her that she was eligible to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on the tablet. However, she realized that the Windows partition doesn’t have enough space that can allow Windows 10 installer to proceed. But this should not be a cause of worry as the manufacturer claims that it is possible to upgrade to Windows 10 using the expandable memory.

-Only 1 GB Of RAM- I GB RAM may be good for Android but, unfortunately, it is on the low-end for a Windows operating system. With this amount of RAM, the number of applications you can run on Windows is limited. And, you may realize that the performance of the tablet will not be optimum if you have many windows open at a go. However, if you focus on just one application at any one time, and you don’t switch back and often so often, then this may not be an issue for you.

Overall, this is a good machine as it packs both Android and Windows operating systems. Besides, it performs well for gaming and basic web-browsing.

If you are looking for a good tablet that would be worth your investment and give you good performance, then you have many options to consider from. Now that can be a bit confusing to some as choosing the best specification can be tricky. Many tablets available in the market basically give you the same performance for your money’s worth. However, if you are looking for a tablet that would give you almost all the best specs while being easy on your pockets, then you can definitely go for the Dragon Touch i8 pro Windows tablet. Let’s review the specfications of the tablet below:

    Features:

The tablet operates on both latest Windows 8.1 along with Android 4.4 Kitkat, the OS can be interchanged as per the use

Has 8 inch IPS screen with 1280×800 HD resolution

Consists of Intel Quad Core 4×1.83GHz processor

The storage can be expanded up to 32 GB with 1GB RAM

The tablet comes with dual camera: 5MP rear camera and 2MP front facing camera

Supports Wifi, Bluetooth Micro HDMI/USB and G-sensor

The features seemed good enough for a good tablet. However there’re a few pros and cons that were found after reviewing the performance of the tab. They are as follows:

    Pros:

Performance: The tablet does really well in terms of performance; upon using it you can simply multitask with different applications efficiently without having to close one to avoid lagging. Many times when a tablet is unable to handle multi tasking, it simply crashes or shuts down or worse lags. This wasn’t the case with the Dragon i8 pro.

Dual Operating System: In the Dragon Touch i8 pro you can switch between Windows 8.1 and Android 4.4 Kitkat. This makes it easier to choose from the best OS. If you need to use the Android but also need the amazing features of Windows then this tablet is the best choice for you.

IPS Screen: Many people wonder about the benefits of the IPS screen. Usually IPS display gives you the best resolution and is very colourful. The screen doesn’t look washed out or reflective. Also the tab comes with a good 1280×800 HD resolution which makes the display much more pleasing.

Quad Core Processor: good performance is the basic expectation of any budgeted tablet. The i8 pro comes with a Quad Core processor which may not be the best but it sufficed. The application loading and web surfing were quite easy with little lagging and as mentioned earlier the performance of the tablet was good enough. However if you are a gamer who wishes to play heavy games then you should want to reconsider. The game does lag when stuffed with heavy games.

Dual Camera: the Dragon Touch i8 pro comes with dual camera of 5MP (back) and 2MP (front) camera. The camera quality is not excellent but it is quite good enough, you can take great pictures in the day light but they may be a little grainy in the evenings and night. The front facing camera is good for selfies but Skyping can be a bit of a challenge.

Size: The tablet is quite handy in size and it is quite easy to carry. Carrying tech devices can be a pain specially when travelling. However the Dragon i8 pro is very sleek and light weight in design and it allows you productivity anywhere.

Storage: Storage of the tablet is expandable up to 32 GB; you can use Micro SD slots as well just the way you would use for a phone. But dual operating systems mean dual storage and dual storage consumption. So the ideal option would be to opt for a good micro SD card to increase store for pictures, songs etc.

    Cons:

Camera: The camera of the tablet isn’t quite up to the mark. Taking clear pictures in the evening is quite difficult. Both the front and rear camera can prove to be a challenge if you want extremely clear pictures. Nonetheless it is good enough for a budgeted tablet.

RAM: in a world where cell phones have better RAMs than tablet, 1 GB Ram is not good enough to multitask. As mentioned earlier, you many face challenges while playing games and handling various applications at once. The 1 GB RAM is insufficient for both Windows and Android.

Windows OS: While the tablet performs well in Android, the Windows OS is a bit of a pain. You need good space and RAM to operate Windows, which the tablet lacks and causes a lot of space issues. You can expand the storage up to 32 GB but the RAM still maybe a problem for Windows.

Switching Operating Systems: While it is amazing that the tablet can switch between Windows and Android, the actual process of switching them can be a bit frustrating. If you load the tab with applications then it makes the switch more slow and even lags in the process. In other words, you will have to stick with one OS if you vigorously use the tab and fill it with content.

Overall the Dragon Touch i8 Pro is a well budgeted tablet that will give you all the basic features of a good tablet. The fact that it comes with dual OS is amazing especially in the price. However, one advice before purchasing this would be that if you use tabs heavily then you should want to reconsider buying it. But if you need a good tablet to finish productive work then this is the best option for you.

There’re a few more good features that have been excluded in the review like Wifi, Bluetooth and HDMI support. The tablet comes with all these features in a good price. If you are confused about buying a Windows or Android device then you can surely go for this one as it provides you with the benefits of both the OS. Remember this is a tablet and not a computer; it will have its own pros and cons and must be used accordingly. Electronics must be handled with care after all.

    Conclusion:

To conclude the review it can be said that the Dragon Touch i8 pro is a good tablet with good features but consider buying it after determining your basic specification and needs.
