So, on my Motorola Droid. I was rooted on unofficial 2.1 then decided to unroot, HARD reset my phone wipe everything and start fresh to download the newly released manual update for Froyo 2.2!

I downloaded, installed it and all that good stuff. Now I'm wondering about how to downgrade from Official 2.2 to Official 2.1-update1 because I want to root once back on Stock 2.1 to Pete's rooted Froyo 2.2 ROM!

    Thank you for any help!

I believe you can just put the 2.1 update.zip on your SD card, boot to stock recovery, then install update.zip.. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It should work but where do you get the firmware update?

I cannot find the update anywhere. Not only that... but why is this update impossible to revert it seems? Any factory reset should always reset it to out the box and then update from there.

I'm getting really frustrated with 2.2. It constantly freezes on me, the battery is getting very hot, and I'd rather just get back to stock.

I'm having the same problem with the aborted update for 2.1. I'm also trying to get back to 2.1 from 2.2. Does anyone have the 2.1 update.zip file? I can't find one anywhere.

OK, I have a few questions.
    1. you download the file and rename it to update.zip, and boot into recovery and install it like if you were installing a new rom right?

    2. Does this change the bootloader back to what it was before SPRecovery?

    3. And finally if I were to downgrade from my rom to stock 2.1 and OTA 2.2, will I be able to just boot back into recovery and load my custom rom again, or will I need to re-root the phone again?

Sorry for such newb questions. I like the rom I am running, but to be honest I wouldn't mind waiting to see when I would get the actual OTA update. And go though the whole process. Just so I can say I have done it.

Thanks for the link, but when I went to apply the update.zip, I again get the following message:

    -- Install from scard...
    Finding update package...
    Opening update package...
    Verifying update package...
    Installing update package...
    E: Error in /scard/update.zip
    (Status 2)
    Installation aborted.

    Any thoughts?

Same thing happened to me...it aborted saying the file wasn't signed or something...

Does anyone have the actual update.zip for 2.1?
