Does renaming, freezing, or removing bloatware do anything?

I've read various forums and have read conflicting answers. Some people say it made their phone faster, some said it made no difference, and others just wanted it gone. So my question is, on the droid 2, does it do anything to speed up your system if you kill those worthless apps?

on droid X (which is similar to D2 in terms of specs) it really did nothing for me (noticeably). any updates u try to install wont work though.

i just use titanium backup to freeze them and anytime i need to do any system updates i can just defrost them..

I renamed all the crapware to .bak the day after I posted this thread and my phone has been smoother and my battery lasts longer. Not a huge difference but definately noticeable.
