Does anyone play the Sims 3?

I got the game like a week ago.
I haven't gotten my first recipie which was salmon until yesterday. How do I get more recipies?
And I keep going fishing but I've never caught tuna or salmon. Is the fishing just chance or is there something I need to do to catch tuna or salmon?
And I'm a vice president for city hall.
Is there anymore promotions available to me?
I always ask for a raise but never get it.
