do I need to update before...

I want to get another rom on here.. I am not sure where I am at.. its been a while since last I updated anything. it says I got 2.3.340 and 2.6.32.9.

I am rooted and got rom manager.. I was going to download one off of there and install it. I am just not sure if I need to upgrade 1st.. or flash something from my computer..??

If you are on 2.3.340, you can do a data wipe and use a Froyo based ROM. To get to a Gingerbread ROM, you will first need to upgrade to GB (Not the OTA!) and then flash the ROM.
