Do I have root?

Both really. Makes for a clean install. Before flashing anything wipe data and cache.

I tried re-downloading and re-applying and I am getting the same error.

Perhaps restoring from an even earlier Nandroid backup in search of one that still has root... but, I'd really like to figure out how to regain root as this could happen again.

Try your oldest backup you got.

Can you flash sprecovery through ROM manager by any chance?
