Disable smileys in text messages?

Can someone please tell me how to disable Smileys in text messages. I'm sure there's a setting somewhere but I cannot for the life of me find it

Hi and welcome to the droid forums.. OK In your texts, if you're writing one, tap your options key and it should say something like insert Smileys... tap that and select your happy face or what ever.

You can also do it manually.. :+) is
:+(= , :+'+( = :'( , :+D= and so on

Yes I understand that, but I want to disable the animations so that it shows the texted Smiley instead

Lol. I dong think there is a way up disable. People who receive your text dont see them as a animation.
