DeX is Samsung's attempt at a desktop experience for the Galaxy lineup. With the DeX dock you can plug in your phone and get a full desktop UX for use with a monitor, mouse and keyboard. According to sources Samsung is currently working on a new version of the DeX dock to be launched next to the Galaxy S9 in 2018. The new DeX will utilize a "pad" instead of a stand. The new dock will be called "DeX Pad" according to GalaxyClub. With Oreo you will be able to use the phone itself as a mouse and keyboard so you won't actually have to carry around those peripherals with you to get the full DeX experience. Even though this will be a flat pad their may still be a need to connect the phone to USB C. We may see a USB C connector that on a hinge that folds out of the way like with the Gear VR. It would be nice to see Samsung include a 3.5mm headphone port on the new DeX.

a pad instead of a stand - wonder if it will be wireless :)

I am not too sure using the phone as a keyboard or mouse. it needs to charge while being used with the DeX. adding more features while the DeX is running will make it harder to keep charge.

Samsung Galaxy S9 & DeX Pad, a much more modern idea than an ARM PC under Windows. Much more practical and simple with the bonus of "possible savings for companies".
    Good luck to Samsung!

I don't know, both have great possibilities.
