No idea why, but search the word redraw on this site. There are a couple of threads that have a fix for this.

I've had the same exact problem for a while, last night I did a few things that seem to have gotten me back to normal.

    1) unneeded apps and widgets. Got rid of a few apps, turned off background notifications on others, only widget I left running is setcpu (for temp monitoring)

    2) got rid of task killer and installed task killer froyo. Turned off all autokill settings and now I only use it to kill unresponsive apps

    3) I used the Fix Permissions tool in ROM Manager and rebooted

    4) cleared browser cache/cookies. Had been a while and the browser had been crashing frequently

I'm not sure which step fixed it but today when I hit the home button it paints the screen right away.

Lastly I've noticed that hitting the back button a bunch of times until it comes back home gets home to paint faster (must clear the history cache)....

I'm running BB v0.5 with the 1ghz kernel (clocked to 900mhz)

I might have to do some reading on the redraw threads because a couple of days after bragging about fixing it here the problem is coming back.

(not always and not as bad though)

    I've found the same thing.
One thing I do to help is make sure any apps that are on my home screens and docks are on the phone and not the sd. Still get slow redraws, but not as bad, not as often.

Good suggestion, only 2 apps I moved to SD but I have plenty of space on phone. Just moved them back will keep an eye out.

I'm curious if a failing SD card could be causing this (somewhat common) issue?

I had 1 droid freeze completely w/ empty app drawer and all. After troubleshooting a bit verizon rep popped in a brand new SD card and the problem went away

Moved the 2 apps to phone.

Angry Birds became corrupt after the move so I uninstalled it. I also removed TV.com and Google Translate (not using them)

Now my home screen shows up faster than it ever has.

Mine still does it. Not as bad or often. Iam using ATK froyo now but iam thinking of uninstalling it.

My pics often take FOREVER to pop up in my gallery. A lot of times they just won't unless I go in and out of it a few times

Ran some tests with a fresh install of the latest CM, then tested solution on BB with the original problem.

I basically started fresh and only installed / logged in to one service at a time giving myself at least an hour of phone usage before going to the next app.

P.S. My second droid w/ stock install seems to be fixed with latest updates but if you're rooted and a bit behind the solution seems simple enough:

    Log out of facebook.

Done. Problem completely solved for me, haven't seen it come back after many days of usage.

For now I bookmarked FB and added a shortcut to mobile site on browser.

Can other users confirm this? I can only confirm on one device running custom rom.
