    Good WiFi App

I am a Verizon user that has unlimited data and an available upgrade. I dont want to lose my unlimited data but that seems to be the only choice with Verizon these days. Is there an app that can automatically connect to available/saved WiFi hotspots (i.e., home, work, school) and at the same time turn off the carrier data so I don't use up the limited data?

    Thank you!

Very good ideas you have put here to save our data. Thank you very much for these Data saving ideas. I want to add one more tip here to save battery also. If you are not browsing anything on your smartphone then keep your phone on "GSM only" mode. It provides 2g speed but you get messages and notifications on the time. When you want to browse then start "WCDMA only" it provides 3G speed. Thank you.

If you get a Motorola device they offer 'smart actions' which you can set to automatically connect to your known Wi-Fi sources. Smart actions work extremely well to control any number of daily use functions. It's a shame that Samsung doesn't have a similar app.

I always close my apps like Facebook, twitter and linkedin or other gaming apps after using them. It saves lots of data usage as when ur apps are kept open the data usage increases.

Is there an app that turns off data and only uses wifi when you're at home and vice-versa when you're out away from your home? I feel like if I got a Droid, I would forget every time I left my house to turn off wifi or if I was in my house, I would forget to use wifi for data. :icon_ lala:

    Welcome aboard.
I have a Galaxy S4 and it automatically connects to any WiFi I had previously connected to. Many other Android phones have that same ability.

I use Wifimatic (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.cprados.wificellmanager). It works perfectly for the intended purpose. It is a suitable substitute for the Verizon App "WiFi Auto-On" which was done away with (for what reason I have no understanding). Another was mentioned - Wifi Auto On from MVS (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mvs.android.apps.wifiautoon), which appears to have reasonably good reviews, but there are a plethora of similar apps now, see https://play.google.com/store/search?q=wifi auto on off&c=apps.
