Dark Slide Rom Feature

So I currently do not have a rooted Droid X as I had to SBF it back so I could take care of a warranty issue. I'm not looking to root it right now but is there a way to get the dark slide feature of shutting the screen down (putting it in dormant mode) by making the screen act like an old tv where the whole thing goes to the center, goes white and then shuts off. I know it's only a small thing but I love the feature. Anyone know if that's possible to get on a non-rooted X?

I do not believe so, because it is either flashed through recovery or there is a way to copy files to /system (which requires mounting as read/write), both of which require root access.
