    i was on petes bugless beast 2.1 v9 ese53.

i just flashed cyanogen 5.0.5.7 from ROM manager and when i was done i know have ese81. i thought the only way to get it was to flash back to 2.0.1 then flash ese81 stock?

I think the flash back to 2.0.1 is only a requirement if you are coming from the "Official" Motorola 2.1 OTA since I don't think there is a root exploit on that yet.

Chevy's new ROM is also based on ESE 81, as is Blackdroid's v9 I think EDIT: UDv9 is ESE 27

Yes blackdroid's UltimateDroid ROM is ERE27 as of this moment. And to the OP, you don't HAVE to be on 2.0.1 to get ESE81 2.1. The Cyanogen source ESE81 build is actually slightly better than the *official* ESE81 build in terms of being better prepared for more modding. In fact Chevy's SS v3.0 that was compiled from source is *based* off of the cyanogen_sholes-eng source code in koush's MotoDroid git hub vendor tree.

So in noob terms, cyan for droid is the most stable ese81 out?

I just installed the newest cyanogen.... and I must say it's very very nice... Also running P3Droids kernel @ 1200mhz and it's rocking.

My personal opinion after running UD for the last few months is compared to US 9.0.... there is an awful lot in common with cyanogen. I'll leave it at that.

I'm loving cyanogen though... getting ready to theme it now.

The 3D app drawer is also the smoothest I have ever seen..... I was shocked... loving it!

This seems like the ROM to beat..... stay tuned. :)

It's nice isn't it?!! I love this ROM...Yeah there has been a lot of things said about ROM manager this and that, but I think a lot of the growing pains are gone. I usually run this ROM "koushed" other than Overclocking. Lately I have been using bgill55's themes, he updates frequently, and keeps it fresh. He has added blur animation to a few of his themes and it is outstanding...read more about it here Bgill55's Themes - CyanogenMod Forum

Cyanogen is NOT built from ESE81. It is a custom ROM built from the Android OS. This is very different from mods like Pete's BB which are indeed built from Motorola's version of the Android OS.

If Cyanogen were built from ESE81 you would have "pinch and zoom" in the browser. You don't.

It's actually built from the latest source from google... and like the above poster mentioned it does have pinch to zoom....

Cyanogen/Koush Rom is sweet! I'm loving it after a few tweeks. :)

That's what I said. Google wrote Android OS.

I was wrong about pinch to zoom though.. just tried it on my phone and it works! Funny because earlier I tried it and it didn't work.

I will say that pinch to zoom is much smoother on stock ESE81.

I've been bouncing back and forth between ESE81 and CM 5.0.5.7 and I'm not sure there's much to be gained by using CM.

I like the notification bar's rounded edges, and transparency when it drops down. I also like the actual number on the battery.

Also, Launcher2 seems a lot smoother with CM.

Otherwise, I think ESE81 is faster and smoother. I run bekit's latest 7 slot 1 ghz kernel on CM and Chevy's 5 slot 1ghz kernel on ESE81.. so maybe that has something to do with it..

You can call it that I guess... but it's the latest AOSP from google. which is not ESE81... as that's a verizon/motorola build number, the only thing it inlcudes from that build is a few drivers.

Yes they have made some great improvements on it as of late... it's sweet... and some sites that have mobile sites like google, the pinch to zoom doens't work (by design though)

I don't know if its ESE81 or ABC123, all i know if CyanogenMod/Koush for my Droid is THE BEST rom i have ever seen, heard about, touched or installed(and i've installed them all). If you are not running CM right now I suggest you either run and do so immediately or check yourself into a mental hospital.
