I know there have been guides to use a boot animation, but I just can't make any sense of them. Can someone please help a big time noob out here :) any apps that I can use to do it, or easiest way possible.

What command are you trying to run from the terminal? Is the animation currently on your sdcard and you are trying to move it? If so where are you trying to move it to "/data/local" or "/system/media" Either way, if you are trying to do it from the droid terminal you will need to make sure your have switched to su. Then if you are trying to copy/move to "/system/media" you will need to remount that partition to be writeable. I would avoid the remount and just copy the file to /data/local.

    su

    mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

    dd if=/sdcard/bootanimation.zip of=/system/media/bootanimation.zip

    Reboot

These are the steps I'm trying to follow... they just don't work. I do have the animation on my Sdcard. I just need to know how to get it to work through the terminal. I also have root explorer installed.

You shouldn't mess with /system. Use /data/local, you don't need root there.

so can you give me what I need to type in on my terminal to change this? and do I just put the bootanimation.zip in the root of my sd card

side note: I am on windows 7 so it simply says bootanimation without the .zip on the end. Idk if that would mess up the command or not. Thanks!

Yeah, just put it in /data/local.

As far as working with files in the /system directory, when you do the mount command make sure you use /dev/block/mtdblock4 and not /dev/block/mtdblock3

Put the bootanimation.zip in your sdcard root.
Unmount your sdcard from the pc and disable usb storage via the droid.
Then just open your terminal on the droid and type the following:
    Code:

    dd if=/sdcard/bootanimation.zip of=/data/local/bootanimation.zip

So just so everyone knows, if you have root check out gscript. You can put in this script above to change the boot animation, save it and then just launch it when you put a new one in your sd card. It's better then typing it in every time.

As mentioned above, sure, but it's just as easy to use droid explorer to stick it into /data/local which keeps you from messing with /system more than necessary. ;)

You should be fine just creating it, that's what I did, but I did it through adb shell and I can't make any guarantees about droid explorer.
