I've been searching around for a while but really couldn't find an answer to my question. How much of a difference does overclocking the Motorola Droid make on the CPU's lifespan?

Since there's no real expected lifespan of a processor, it's hard to judge what impact overclocking has. There's no real definite number. Some processors can last forever overclocked, some die immediately. It really is a function of the overclock and the processor itself, and since every processor is a little different, there's really no way to know until it goes.

I've spent the better part of my 24 years overclocking and hacking away at processors. I've had them die immediately, and I've had some still function perfectly after 6 years. It's sort of a crapshoot.

Would it be safe to assume that my Droid overclocked to 1ghz should last the 2 years until I renew my contract?

I wouldnt say it's 'safe to assume' anything regarding overclocking. Watch your temps and be smart, and you should be OK.
