I have a couple of sound files for notifications I'd like to copy over to my Droid's memory instead of having them on the sdcard. Before you whack me about why... I tend to have my Droid plugged in and mounted a lot due to my job and the custom notifications will then default to other sounds. They are small files so I'm not too worried about their space. What I need help with is the syntax to copy the mp3's over to my rooted Droid from the sdcard using the terminal emulator. I very much appreciate the help and I'm certain that some of you may want to know how to do this as well.

    Kind regards!

You could always use the dual sdcard mount app. That way both the system, and your pc could use the sdcard and it would seemingly solve your problem without having to put the sounds directly in the system folder.

or you can easily move whatever sound files to your system as you'd like by using busybox.

    Code:
    su
    mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    cd sdcard
    busybox cp -R whatevermusicfile.mp3 /which/folderyouwantitin/
    mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    sync
    exit
Just put the music in the root of your sdcard, and obviously in the code above change the filename of your music file to whatever yours is. Also change the directory to where ever in your system you want it. So basically don't just copy and paste the code above.

    his method is correct.
If you don't know where to put them, it's in /system/media/audio/
you will see a ringtone folder, notification folder, etc.

Does it have to be .ogg?

I'm not sure if it only has to be in .ogg file but that's what I used and it has worked great.

Since ROMs are frequently updating is there a way I can put this info into a script and run the script off my sdcard via Android Terminal Emulator?

    Thanks!

Or download GScript from the market and do it from your phone.
