There's a whole bunch of new users of the s-pen now that the Note7 is out but I want to pass along some oldies that others might not know on top of the new goodies. The following were done on an antiquated Note4 with L do yours might need slight variances in the method.
Making app icons, or any other use of the image clip
Find a photo you want a part of and choose image clip with the s-pen. Draw an area around the section you want then in the upper left of the screen choose a shape
af9ae11d4721b6dca18556507fc30a4b.jpg
. Tap share. In this case I chose S Note because it allows to save as either an image file or pdf.

b05d8e9ec39c4068a85438befdc65c40.jpg
. I chose image file so it'd show up in my gallery under S Note Export.

Next choose the icon you want to change , assuming your launcher allows that but most aftermarket ones do now and follow it's method to change the icon

.

.
I'm just scratching the surface here with a basic no frills method of making an icon but there is literally an almost unlimited amount of things you can do if you add other apps into the mix to fine tune the image, methods of sharing, etc.

As some are already aware I just started a new job. The district manager is having a little fun with me being a Seahawks fan and he being a Steelers fan by taping Steelers logos on my coffee cup and stuff. I was at the new facility this past Friday and the painters had just finished, unbeknownst to him, painting of the exterior walls to cover some vandalism by miscreant youth. It looks like this now
78640c1259da2df2d297df5b6d17ec48.jpg
but I made a photo using the s-pen and another app called Picsay to send him a photo that the vandals were back after the painters finished and did this
a9c2eb454d646c808b3df26a15b05180.jpg
. It took about 5 minutes to add this
262a8ae03fa917d7cfc5e8b4efa6e333.jpg
over top of the original and erase all that I didn't want, the s-pen making the erasure very accurate and fast.
Hopefully he'll see the humor and not be too angry when he comes all the way down from Ashland and sees the truth.
Having an s-pen and an imagination can be a lot of fun or could be dangerous in the wrong hands

Here is another neat thing you can do with the s-pen and a free app from Samsung Electronics on the Play Store called Write On PDF.
I took a pdf file of a trail map
ee5bb964708508be13e42c4d1b08b08e.jpg
and added am approximation of some new trails that haven't been added to the map yet
f3cae39b321540eadf5c197f2de905f4.jpg
by pinch zooming the file and drawing on top using the s-pen. There's a finger mode for those who must use their fingers for whatever reason.
I got the job application from my boss in pdf form before I was hired and used the app to fill it out and send it back electronically instead of via the old print/scan method of doing so in the past .
This app combination could be priceless for those making changes to field drawings and such where both parties don't use the same cloud backup software to edit and share back or aren't really keen on that stuff being on a server somewhere.

Here's one that really isn't a time saver vs the air command but it's more of a "because I can" thing.
Hold the s-pen away from the phone a few inches, push its side button, double tap the screen. An action memo will pop up on the screen, be it a regular screen or lock screen.

With newer software or newer models than the Note4 on L this can also be done with the screen off

but in my case I use an aftermarket app created by a member of xda called Screen Off Memo Pro. It's not free but since AT&T seems to have abandoned my phone it's a nice workaround to have for screen off quick off memo app.

I used to use write on pdf all the time. Samsung actually includes it in the Note 7 now.

Unfortunately this doesn't work with the Note 7 as of now as they didn't include action memo in the new Notes. Not sure if you can install the original and get it or not.

We could create a stand alone thread for all the cool stuff Picsay can do. I used it once last summer and immediately bought the pro version. It's basically an Android version of photo shop..

Great thread Mark!

Do you have Create Note in your Air Command? I understand that's the new Action Memo
No wonder Write On PDF isn't in the Play Store for Note 7, says it's incompatible on the website.
I've had the Pro of Picsay for years because it was the first and only one with red eye reduction when I got it back then and that is all I used it for for the longest time. The accuracy of the fine point of the s-pen adds quite a bit of editing accuracy ability over my finger when I used it on my Rezound (maybe Inc 1?) years back. I find it much easier to use than Photo Shop on a big computer, especially now that I have the Notes (2,4,8) to use a pen with. My old pastor thought the Samsung commercial where they edited a kid out of a graduation photo was bogus (he used an iPhone) so I sent him a photo of my daughter swimming with others around, used PP to edit out all the other kids to show him what was once an aftermarket app on Android was now embedded in the S series vs not doable on iOS.
I'm showing my co-workers what the s-pen will do on their company phones and they're blown away at how much time it can save on simple tasks.

Action Memo is nice for a quick down and dirty drawing unless you need to erase something. Then it erases the entire last line drawn, which really sucks if you just want to make a minor shape change. It's best used for writing and stuff.
To make a good free hand drawing I like to use Sketch Pad For Galaxy, which I got for free from the Samsung app store. It not only allows erasing of just what you want erased (much like Picsay does when editing things) it also has tools and guidelines that make drawing a circle look like a circle, arcs look like arcs, lines are straight, etc. while free handing the rest but can also be used much much more elaborately with practice. It has a bit of a learning curve at first but after a few practice drawings it becomes quick to use. Not as fast as a quick memo but great for a drawing or more.

Here's where I free handed a table top design
46d1c0ba69924340bb7062a01fb595c6.jpg
then used guidelines to make it look less free hand
a50cd52fef13d23fc5fa92dfc87efdc7.jpg
in about 3 minutes, actually less time than the totally free hand one.
Again, these are just very rough drawings but with more time I could have gotten the arcs better, numbers could be done in text instead of writing, dotted lines more linear, etc. More like this
