Is there anyway to keep my droid x from combining contacts with the same name?
I don't have the last name for some of them and my phone keeps combining the contacts.
I am running the newest android version, gingerbread I believe.
Also, is there anyway to prevent the notes and business info from doubling itself under a single contact?

You should be able to separate them. Go to the contact, edit, and see if there's an option for that.

I have been doing that today.
How can I prevent it from happening again in the future?
It sucks because I have a ton of contacts form work and all.
I really wish their contacts were more like my old blackberrys. That is one thing rim had right IMHO.
Thanks for the help.

Is everyone backed up to Gmail? Another option is to go thru your Gmail contacts and differentiate their info. Even if you don't know their last name, you could have a "descriptor" as the last name. This is what my husband does who is notoriously bad for either not knowing last names, or not being able to spell last names. In his phone he'll have:

Bill (the Trainer)
Bill (the Carpet guy)
Bill (from Winking Lizard)
Bill (Jane's husband)

And when he has to do a wipe or something, this keeps his contacts separated.

I had them backed up to my gmail account.
I know I have added some since.
Shares the easiest way to make sure it is current before I go editing them and reload them?

Also, what about groups. I have groups setup on my gmail account but all that info seems like it doesn't come over to my phone.
