I just bought a Droid on Monday Night. I had G-mail beforehand and had contacts established on it. When my Droid synced to Google first the first time, it merged a couple of my contacts. I separated those contacts but then it showed duplicate contacts in G-mail. After I fixed G-mail, the previously separated contacts merged themselves again. I fixed it, and now my G-mail contacts show duplicate entries again.

Mine did the same. I disabled Gmail sync. Erased my contacts on the Droid. Fixed them on the web Gmail. reactivated sync.....

I had the same problem. One duplicate would have the email address (from Gmail) and the other would have the phone numbers (from my phone contact list). I found the easiest way to fix the problem was to go into Gmail and merge the two contacts into one.
