    Hey all,

Not sure if this is the right place, but I'm having a problem with WiFi Tether. I flashed PE 6.5 (rooted and flashed a ROM for the first time yesterday). It's working fine, but I can't get any tethering apps to work correctly.

I have a paid version of PDANet - it's constantly disconnecting now. I downloaded Wireless Tether for Root Users and installed it. I don't think it's working right either because my computer can't connect to the network. Also when I try to turn off WiFi Tether by touching the yellow WiFi logo, it says "Unable to Start Tether is your phone rooted?" and then "Your phone is in an unknown state. Please try to reboot".

    Any ideas?

Do you have the wifi tether app set up to connect with a password?

No, there are the settings I have it on -

    Device profile - Auto
Setup Method - Auto (other option is WEXT ad-hoc)
    Wi Fi encryption OFF
    SSID - AndoidTether
    Channel 03
    Transmit power - reduction disabled
    Access Control - not enabled

Everything else is as it came with the app.

I have tried it on a Windows 7 HP laptop with Atheros wifi card - it sometimes will detect the network but can't connect.

I have tried it on a Win XP HP netbook with a Broadcom wifi card - it found the network most of the time but also failed to connect. Once it connected for about 2 seconds and the browser showed the google homepage and then it failed to receive anymore data.

If anyone is really good at this I would be happy to IM or PM back and forth until it's resolved. Let me know if you can help?

Forgot to mention - now when I turn off WiFi Tether it shuts off normally and no longer has any error messages. However I still can't connect to a network.

Finally figured it out. My laptop needed to have ad-hoc networking turned on in the advanced tab of Properties within device manager. Then it needed wifi encryption turned on and set to WPA, AND it needed access control enabled. Not sure why it wouldn't work otherwise but now it's working.

For my netbook, it's an HP with a Broadcom adapter. That one needed to have the channel manually set in the properities from device manager so that it matched the Droid's transmit channel.

So both of my computers didn't work out of the box, so to say, but now they are working great! I wanted to post the solution so that if someone else has the problem they might try what I did.
