Composing new text message name doesn't show up

Hi, When I select text message and compose, I start entering in the "to:" box the name of the person I want to text to. Some names show up and sometime just the phone number. Even if the number is tagged as mobile, some of those names show up and some don't. The contact info was set up and looks identical. I even erased the contact and re-entered it. Any idea why this is happening. I know I can always go directly to the contact and press the text icon, but I'd like to fix this problem.
