compass issues

hi! I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the problem I'm having. Other than being totally off, the compass drifts when I change the angle of the phone in my hand. I have tried using both GPS Status and OSMand, and both exhibited the same problem. "Calibrating" the compass (figure-8 & from within gps status) made no difference.

I'm using liberty v2.0.1
It was fine when the phone was still [rooted] stock.

I'm having a similar problem on my x. In the calibrate compass screen it never turns green. I'm on darkslide 4.2

oh, I discovered some more weirdness--it seems that google maps and street view compass mode work perfectly, but the other usual market apps exhibit the weird behavior. It feels as if the compass is taking angle data from the accelerometer into its calculations.
