Chrome Sync failing

Chrome on my Note 3 suddenly decided to stop syncing with Google and I can't access any of my bookmarks. Already tried disconnecting and reconnecting. That didn't help.

Is there another option other then Stop and Clear?

Does that really take "several hours" and how much data will I lose?

Well after Googling the problem and reading a dozen various postings, I see there are a lot of problems with Contacts. Most had the basic fixes that sometimes worked.

For me, everything was working except for Chrome.

I tried something and it worked. And it makes no sense.

So to fix Chrome sync...I opened the Gmail app and turned sync back on. All back to normal now. Go figure.

There is something that happened during the sequence of sync not working but I don't know if it's related.

I tapped on the Chrome icon and Dolphin opened instead, seemingly hijacking the default browser specification. Could that have disrupted Chrome sync?
