Edit: better video of the demo for Android. Obviously still in early development and will not lag this bad

The first minute or two is pretty lame, but after that the UI is pretty impressive. Wish I had it now.

For you Linux users out there this makes me think of Compiz . I wonder if developers could create custom UI instead of what we have now.

    As far as the OG Droid goes this seems to be the next logical step, we already have;

    Custom Roms
    Custom Themes
    overclocking
    compressed cache
    swap memory
    Apps2SD(prior to 2.2)

    tell me what you think!

That is pretty impressive stuff...I've always liked SPB Mobile Shell UI, I used to run it on my Touch Pro's and HTC Diamond back in the days before Android..
I will def consider SPB 5.0 when its released if it makes it to Android....:)

Its supposed to come to android. I'd rather have a homebrew/opensource version though... maybe one of the development teams could put it together.

The Droid also has a custom UI in the MIUI ROM. This video reminded me a little bit of the MIUI ROM, it just seems to have spiced up folders and widgets, but seriously, widgets aren't that difficult to manage... And the only real difference to this from the MIUI ROM is the 3D swiping between home screens...

I've checked it out (briefly) and it reminded me of the iPhone more than anything. I could be wrong but thats the impression i got from MIUI. I like this one cuz it reminds me of compiz.

checked it out a little more in depth and pretty much hated it. One thing I loved was the settings in the notification bar... brillant!!! Too much like the iPhone IMO, but hey to each's own. That's the beauty of Android in the first place right? Link below.

So it has a rotating cube and it reminds you of compiz? Besides the cube it's nothing like compiz-fusion, the similarity ends there.

You checked what out? The video? Have you even installed it and tried it? Besides the lack of a launcher meaning you have all your apps in pages and the icons, it is nothing like the iPhone, the similarity ends there as well.

to answer your first question, yes it does remind me of compiz not only because of the rotating cube but the way you can customize everything on each "panel"- like my fully customized compiz desktop that i'm typing from right now.

no haven't installed it or tried it so i guess i can't give and educated opinion on it, BUT from what i've seen I don't like it (for the very reasons you gave above) as well as it reminds ME of the iPhone. Seems like the iPhone with widgets to me.

but that's just MY opinion, which carries no weight with anyone on here.
I saw something I liked with the SPB UI and thought I'd share it, didn't want to start an arguement or anything.

You are absolutly entitled to your opinion and to customize your phone any way you see fit, that's one of the reasons I love open source in the first place.

I have to agree, to disagree, with you on this one.

Is it GPU accelerated? it certainly looks fast and smooth, I doubt an A8 can do that...

hmmm...the last time I got excited for a new UI, I was disappointed to hear it was only being marketed to manufacturers. Yes TAT I'm talking about you...

Looks interesting though, hate the 3d carousel thing, but everything else looks pretty cool.

Maybe a development team could tailor it for the D1, after all they ported froyo to the G1. Im not sure if that phone is actually running the UI or its just a mock up to demo what it will look like.

I love the look of the non-MWC demo, but the demo on the phone looked pretty laggy. Easily too laggy for my tastes. Also, should this be in the Bugless section?
