The Droid (at least the original one) glass screen is made from Gorilla glass (yay Corning!), which is pretty much the strongest glass EVAR!

Basically, you probably don't need a screen protector. I happen to use an anti-glare one anyway, for the well, anti-glare. Plus it keeps fingerprints off pretty well. I use a Clarivue one. I had a really bad experience with the ZAGG InvisibleShield. $20 I'll never see again.

I tried the case without the battery door but dirt was finding its way into the battery compartment so that was the deal breaker

can of compressed air would fix that .... but not for harsh environments .... i keep mine fairly clean and only in/around pockets, so no battery door + the rubber insert is good enough

You can get an OEM BP6X (The stock battery) for about $5+ shipping on Amazon...
