My friends Droid is on 2.2.1 frg83d we have tried everything to root it. If there is a one click root that would be cool so we don't need a computer any links would be awesome. Thnx :)

There are a couple of "one click" root apps that I've found out there. One is a paid app called easyroot by Unstable Apps. But I've heard that it only works on droids that are on 2.0.1. The other one is z4root. Just do a google search for those. I think z4root you will have to get from another forum site, it used to be in the market, but Google pulled it.

Google should stop being like Apple and let us do what we want with our phones. I mean they claim to be open source when they truly aren't!!

To be honest this is probably more Motorola and Verizon's faltered than Google. I think.

The only other way then that I know of that you can root the phone is by using a computer. Sorry it didn't work.

Just an FYI, some of these one click root programs can cause system instability. Your best option is to use a pc or laptop to perform the root, its safe and effective, if you go to the Droid Hacking Help section here on the forum, you'll find there are members who have guides on performing the root in their sig lines, that's what I used and got great results. Good luck

z4root will not currently work with 83D. You will either have to downgrade to 22D via the Verizon master OTA update file through recovery or hook your phone to a computer. There are no other options at the moment for a Droid on 83D. The best method for a variety of reasons is linked to in my signature, so if you're using your phone you should log into a computer or use the web browser on your phone.

Open source doesn't mean unlocked. You can view the source all you want. You can even code programs for it. Motorola has publicly stated they don't like people hacking their phones and Verizon doesn't want rooted users stealing services.
