Can't make consecutive calls

When on bluetooth - if I hang up from one call and immediately try to place second I get to the "connecting" screen but then I compeltely lose all service (bars and 3g are gone), can't disconnect the call and the only fix I've found is to shut phone down and restart? Any one elsel experience or have suggestions?
