can't get root

I just got a thunderbolt and of course i need to root it. I've searched all over and and everybody says revolutionary works for 2.3.4, but alas,
when I start the process right away it tells me "failed to get root". I'v rooted many phones, I'm not a total noob. does anyone know how to help?

Well, i just attempted it on my laptop running Ubuntu and it didnt work. I think it might be the 1.05 HBOOT version which should be compatible

It does work i rooted mine. Try clearing the cashe.

Well, after some research I found out that my problem is that the ROM version 2.11.605.9 (I think it is) doesn't work on the Revolutionary tool and you need to flash an older version of it
