In "language and input" the option to uncheck the Android keyboard is greyed out. When I attempt to use another keyboard by checking it I can choose that alternate keyboard but the stock keyboard is the only one that is available when I type.

I tried two alternate keyboards with no luck.

Go to a text box like google pull up the keyboard and hold down in a text box for a few seconds. If its like all the other phones it will give you alternative keyboards. Just make the one you want your default.

Sorry, if that didn't work i'm at a loss. I had the d1 for two years and that's how I always changed the keyboard.
Was the keyboard up when you held on the text box?

I found the setting. In the language and input area you have to tap on default to get the selection menu to come on the screen.
