Unsuccessful installation upon attempt of update of the Google Search app in 4.2. Been having this issue for a few months. Can anyone tell me if the new GApps in the thread above work with 4.2, or if there's a fix to this issue?

I am assuming it is a system app so you could delete it first, reboot your phone, then download the newest version from the market.

Yes you are right it is a system app so you must use terminal or rott explorer to delete the app then install from the market. If it still doesn't work there is a command that you may need to run to remove any remaining leftover files from google search. The command starts like pm uninstall but I can't give you the rest of the command until I have a chance to look when I get home but that may not be needed.

You could always just pull the google search app from the new gapps I posted and then drop it on your sdcard and use terminal and ttype the following commaands.
    su
    sysrw
    cp /sdcard/GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk /system/app
    sysro
    sync

And that's it you'll be good to go

try downloading it or installing through market just like you have been
then use root explorer to navigate to the /cache/download folder where it will be named downloadfile.apk
it might be named something like downloadfile-2.apk, and so on, depending on how many apks you have recently installed/updated through the market.
find the right one--the one with the google search icon-- and rename it to GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk
move the file to /system/app and change permissions to rw-r--r--
    reboot

EDIT: oh wow, somehow i missed the post right above me. hahaha

Awesome. Well done. This does the trick. Are there any other apps from that new gapps post I can install using this method?

EDIT: Donation sent. Thanks for always being so responsive. To Greg and all the devs at PE, Good job.
