(don't mine the pandora part, pandora skinned just fine, im only having a problem with facebook)

Hey guys, i really didn't want to make this thread, but i have been trying to get the smoked glass theme for facebook to work for the past 2 days and just cannot figure it out. Now before installing i check /system/app with root explorer and Facebook.apk is not there. and after installing Facebook.apk IS in that folder, the skin just doesn't show up.

Here is what i am doing:

    -Dropping facebook.apk.zip onto sd card
    -unmount
-open astro, find facebook.apk.zip at the bottom
    -push and hold>edit>rename "Facebook.apk"
    -close astro
-open droid root helper, mtdblock 3 and 4
    -open terminal emulator
    -type:
    su (enter)
    busybox cp -R /sdcard/Facebook.apk /system/app (enter)
    sync (enter)
    -open droid root helper
    -unmount mtdblock 3 and 4
    -sync
    -reboot

anything you can see im doing wrong?

    heres a video:

also, a little on the weird side, i installed simply stunning earlier today just to try it out and it had facebook skinned stock no problem.

I am pretty sure that you do not have to manually mount anything.....

And actually on an unrelated note, blocks 3 and 4 are not the Droid's specific mount blocks...it's actually 4 and 6. That was a misunderstanding that started way back months ago, but just remember anytime you see Droid commands that say mount blocks 3 and 4 (or 3 and 5), it is in fact, 4 and 6

I did the Pandora smoked glass widget, and this right here is EXACTLY all I did:

Put the Pandora.apk.zip on the root of your sdcard without the .zip of course.
    TE commands:

    su
    mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    busybox cp -R /sdcard/Pandora.apk /system/app
    mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    sync
    reboot

Wait, I think I know what might be interfering with this....Pandora is really a /data/app application and those commands moved it to /system/app......but the FB application is already a /system/app.....or maybe the file you downloaded to your sdcard, is not the smoked glass FB widget??

You know man.....I really don't know....

I know that FB would not go to /data/app because that comes default on the phone ya know? But Pandora is just a normal app you DL from the Market so it goes to /data/app, but then with that command the smoked glass version was moved to /system/app.....

I really am not sure about the FB though, I personally haven't used FB one time since I have had my phone, so therefore I haven't tried making it smoked glass ya know? lol

The forum will pick up in a little bit so maybe someone else can help you out....sorry though

Brock make sure the file is renamed to " Facebook.apk" it must be named with a capital "F" I think I forget to do it in the zip and when trying to push it with a lowercase F it would not skin it stayed white. but changing the file name to Capital F worked.

so open root explorer to /system/app and rename your file to Facebook.apk

I had a backup of facebook from Astro on my sdcard. I renamed it to Facebook.apk and then moved it into the /system/app directory. After that I went to Metamorph and applied the smokeglass theme. I only selected Facebook theme and I got it to work. Maybe give that a try.

well then you can't apply a metamorph theme it must be moved to /system/app/Facebook.apk

i cant get the pandora.apk to work. I do as the instructions say but in TE after i input the busybox line and hit enter i get a line that says "app: applet not found". Is that supposed to be there or is it an error?

edit: ok im a tool, guess it helps to actually understand what im reading, guess it helps to put the spaces in when typing in TE

    According to this thread: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/android-roms/22900-how-do-i-install-fb-pan-apk-files.html

    su
    mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    busybox cp -R /sdcard/Facebook.apk /system/app
    mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    sync
    reboot

I thought I read you either had to pull or remane the original file, I dont remember where. The other issue I had was forgetting to uninstall the original app when I did pandora last night.

FWIW, I have had some instances where permissions were not set properly after copying the APK to /system/app and that was causing a headache, especially when trying to get Smoked Glass Pandora working. To set the permissions properly, run this command after copying the APK from your SD card to /system/app:

    chmod 644 /system/app/YourFile.apk

Then proceed as normal with remounting the file system and rebooting your phone.

For those that prefer to set permissions via a file browser, you should set the following:

rw-r--r-- (that is Read and Write for 'User' and Read for 'Group' and 'Others')

    Hope this helps!
