Cannot get any ftp apps to work........

I am an IT Helpdesk Analyst and would like to think I have a pretty good grasp of how this stuff works.....however I have tried FTPServer, ES File Explorer and a couple others but I am not getting good results.

FTPServer will let me connect but will not allow me to move any files. ES File Explorer says the password is wrong and WebSharing works but will not let you go up from /SD Card.

I would love to get ES File Explorer to work but it just won't. I'm so frustrated right now it's ridiculous. Add to that I'm using Vista (which I despise) and I am ready to give up.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I used AndFTP every single day. Love it (apart from the slow keyboard input when adding a new server).

Using WEP with 64 bit encryption.
