    Hey Guys,

I was trying to run Wifi Tether with Bluetooth PAN to give internet access to my Wifi XOOM. It tries to connect but then just bombs out and won't do it.

I'm running GPA14, and I've tried both the stock Kernel as well as the Slayer 1Ghz kernel. Not sure what to think here. Do I have to go back to 2.2 for functionality? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

UPDATE: I flashed a 2.2 Stock ROM and I can bluetooth tether with ease. Pete is there something wrong with the Kernel or ROM that does not allow Bluetooth PAN?

Of you roll back to a stock 2.2 ROM it works great. For now that's what I'm doing. I find myself using the xoom more often anyway. :-\

I went back to a completely stock ROM from Pete's site. Not a bugless ROM. Not sure how they will work.

I hate to leave GPA, but BB 6.2.1 works for BT tether using wireless tether from the market.

I hope this works when GB BB makes it out...

Thanks for the great work Pete!

More details on GPA Bluetooth tether issue

I'm on GPA12 and experienced the same issue today. Here's my setup:

    • Wireless Tether version: 2.0.7
    • Android version: 2.3.2
    • Baseband version: C_01.43.01P
    • Kernel version: 2.6.32.9_1GHz_LV_V0.1 root@pete #39
    • Build number: GPA12
I use a Jabra Bluetooth headset just fine with my Droid; however, when I try to tether via Bluetooth, I get the following on my Xoom (Wireless & networks | Bluetooth settings):

    • Paired devices: Droid "Paired but not connected"
    • (click Droid, then click Tethering): "Connecting..." then "Use for Internet access" again
Some quick searches showed that we're not alone, and that it seems to be mainly GPA12-GPA14 users:

A friend has a Droid running Project Elite, so I tested tethering with his device to narrow down whether it might be an overall Gingerbread issue, or something confined to Pete's ROM/kernel. Here's his setup:

    • Android version: 2.3.2
    • Baseband version: C_01.43.01P
    • Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9_RZ Raidzero@gentoo #34
    • Build number: GRH78C
    • ROM version: Project Elite GB v5.0.2
My friend's device successfully tethered with my Xoom on the first try. There's also a report of someone's successfully BT tethering a Xoom and a Droid using a CyanogenMod 7 nightly in the recent comments of the following article:

How to: Bluetooth Tether to Motorola XOOM Using Original DROID - Droid Life
So it looks like we at least have some Gingerbread options if the lack of BT tethering on GPA is a show stopper, but GPA12 is soooooooooo effin sweet on my phone -- more stable than stock, blazing fast, 60+ hours battery life (even using the device for development!), etc. -- there's no reason for me to go elsewhere.

I'll do what I can to further isolate the issue in the next day or two and bombard y'all with some more bulleted lists if I come up with anything. ;)

I actually appreciated the list and further research! I wonder how many XOOMs were sold this weekend now?

Looks like the issue is not kernel related, but in the GPA ROM

For further troubleshooting, I tried Bluetooth tethering to my Xoom using GPA12 with the RaidZero kernel which my friend had installed with Project Elite (see my previous post above), but without success.

I then tested Bluetooth tethering with both Project Elite and CM7 Nightly installed on my Droid, and both succeeded, even when using Pete's 1GHz kernel.

So it doesn't seem to be kernel related; the issue's likely in the ROM. I haven't gotten into ROM hacking yet, but the ROM source would be the next place I'd look. I'll make some time in the next few days to get acquainted with AOSP and to see if any thing sticks out in the Bluetooth implementation that might give Pete some more info.

Here's the detailed listfest of my recent troubleshooting on the issue:
    1. (existing GPA12 installation)
    2. Installed RaidZero Low Voltage 7 slot 800MHz Gingerbread kernel
      • Android version: 2.3.2

Using peters BB until a 2.3.3 tethering fix is found... BB tethers fine.

I wish I had more dev experience with Android, then I'd be more help in this solution...

Sent from my Xoom using DroidForums
