Can you root X without activation?

Have 2 X's. People on here helped me sbf original back to stock (thanks Abe and Graymayre). New one has service. Old one use on wifi (kids use it for games as well). Downloaded z4, but can't get it root. Is this impossible to do without activating phone?

You dont have to activate the phone for it to get root.What version of z4 are you using? YOu sbf back to .340?

Sbf full 340. Z4 worked immediately on this x. 2010 copyright (says app 10110) I stopped process after 15-20 minutes. Read some posts here where it took 30. Should I delete file on PC, reload and download to phone and try again?

pull the battery and try it again. if you are on wifi, try putting it in airplane mode.

Make sure you have usb debugging checked and also see if that z4root your using is 1.3.0 if not get it here.
