Would also like to know this. I have been task killing the stock one for awhile, but am sure out is eating some of my battery

    1. It is starting for a reason - it is needed by handcent
    2. Just because it is started does not mean it is using battery. It is just sitting in memory.
    3. Stop using task killer and your battery life will improve

You'll only lose MMS capabilities. I don't send hardly any MMS messages, so I don't care.

My dad deletes it everytime he flashes a new rom to help free up space. I personally leave it alone because A. I already have plenty of room in my system memory. B. I send plenty of mms. And C. Just incase handcent ever decides to break I don't have to worry about anything =)
