Can Gmail use "my contacts" instead of all contacts?

Is there a way to set Gmail to only use your "my contacts" list when composing an e-mail instead of using "all contacts"? It would really help with the problem of not being able to turn of auto adding of new contacts. At least you wouldn't have to see all the contacts.
