can battery life be improved with custom ROM

I recently purchased a used Droid X. Other than battery life, I like it. I had rooted my Droid OG. It gave me fits from freezing but it may just have been the hardware as two of the bottom buttons were not working at the end. Hence, I am reluctant to root the X. However, if doing so would improve battery life I would probably do so.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

A custom ROM will definitely net you better battery life if you pick the right one. I recommend Darkslide if you like Blur or Apex is you like AOSP.

Liberty rom always gave me amazing battery life and speed, I recommend it.

SSX 2.0 and underclocked to 800mhz with ultra low voltages.

Thank you so much for your replies. I downloaded the one click routing method. I am now stepping back into the rooted droid X arena.

Much appreciated,

Jim

I get excellent battery life using MIUI

I got better on MIUI than the other Froyo kernel 2nd init ROMs. Now I am on CM7 GB kernel and get really good battery

I'm really hoping the next update for MIUI will use the GB kernel
