Camera app loses picture

Hey guys, I know this is a bit of a long shot, but I discovered that if you sleep the droid too soon after snapping a photo (like just a second or two after snapping it) it tends to not want to save it. I was just curious if it perhaps has it saved anywhere else in some sort of cache or something in the root partition of the phone, before it goes to sd, or any other crazy way I could retrieve this photo. Again, I know this is a long shot, but I took some pictures that I'd really like to keep if it's at all possible.

fwiw, i had an issue where the camera would appear to take a pic, and even show me the capture, but then i'd go and look for it and it wouldn't be in the gallery. i changed the settings so that it saved to the sd card, and that solved my problem.
