    I'm not sure if this is the write place to ask this, but is there any way to get a C++ compiler/editor for the droid? I need to be able to write some pretty basic programs (just practice ones for class) and I'm going to be out of the country for a month with no access to a computer.

    I doubt there are any. IIRC, Droid uses Java ME for applications. Any text editor will work for .cpp files, but you are going to need a regular computer for even the most basic learning of programming.

    #include stdio.h
    int main(){
    printf("Hello World.");
    return 0;
    }

    Yes there is, just google for android C++ SDK and you get:

    Android 1.6 NDK, Release 1 | Android Developers

    Not sure why there is 1.6 version only, they say it works works with 1.5 and later versions of Android. They use GCC on Linux and Mac (they mention Cygwin for MS Windows).

    But: "Please note that the NDK does not enable you to develop native-only applications. Android's primary runtime remains the Dalvik virtual machine."

    You are going to need a computer for editing, especially learning. I am sure if you were experienced, you could actually pull off very basic editing (albeit painfully) in VI or whatever text editor you may find, and then compile it (more than likely slowly) on your android. But to learn, you're definitely going to need a computer.

    He's looking for a compiler to install on the phone. So he can use the phone to write and compile C++.

    You could probably coerce gcc into running as a compiler on the droid, but that will probably take some work as far as satisfying dependencies, getting gcc compiled, etc.

    I actually looked into doing this a week or so ago. Your first challenge is going to be using the native cross compiler to get binutils running. Then, you'll probably need to cross-compile the GNU make system, and THEN do the GCC collection.

    Yeah, all those steps are why I stopped working on it, at least for now. Good luck to you...

    Thanks for all the info. I tried getting GCC to work with it, but I also figured it's just too much work for right now. Guess I need to get a netbook or something...
