Just wondering but what's the difference between bugless beauty & bugless beast? Also how badly does overclocking to 800 or 850mhz ruin your battery?

I only have bugless beast, so I can't answer the first question. With the profiles on setcpu, I'm overclocked to 1ghz and haven't noticed a drop in battery life. YRMV

Can someone help? I'm not really in the loop with the hacking info, and I'm seriously contemplating rooting.

Is it pretty stable at 1ghz? also is it a ridiculous increase in speed?

So no significant drop in battery life? Also what about the processor temp at 1ghz no damage over time or anything?

Beauty and the Beast are the same, basically, except for Overclocking. You can overclock Beauty by loading a new kernel in. The beast uses Taz' 1ghz kernel. You can find that Kernel here:AllDroid - View topic - [Release] TazKernel 1.3GHz and TempMonitor Reborn (02/06/10)

And instructions to load it are on that same page.

The max temps folks are seeing are almost always under the phone's max operating temp according to both Motorola and Verizon (113F). My phone is running at 1ghz and has never been over about 105-106. I don't remember anything higher than that. If you load the Taz kernel you will also get the ability to directly monitor the chip temp. You download SetCpu from the market and it will let you put the processor temp in the info bar so you can see it all the time.

Note that the kernels in that thread are already included in the new Bugless Beast ROM (.7.5).

    I would suggest starting here:
    Root Your Droid

They have very good guides with complete walk-troughs from rooting to OCing (though I don't think they have done a custom ROM yet, but Pete's BB ROMs have complete guides on the first page).

    Note:
Have some $ ready, you'll need SetCPU and TempMonitor for OCing and both are paid apps (cheap, but still paid). Also buy the pro edition of Screebl to maximize your battery life.

Thanks for all of your help and replies everybody, I'm very looking at rootyourdroid.info and starting the process all of the steps are listed for installing bb are they easy to follow? I've never done anything of the sorts and I don't really want 2.1 that moto is providing. Also can you reverse root to make it look as though it never happened?

Most of the guides are easy to follow. You can restore to stock easily. I would suggest you find a post by Matth3w and use the guides posted in his signature. They will get you through it all safely. Here's one: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...ave-running-your-status-bar-2.html#post220251

    Good luck and have fun.
